Charitable Giving
A commitment to citizenship is the heart of Georgia Power's core values. That's been true ever since the company was founded more than 100 years ago and our first president, Preston Arkwright Sr., defined our vision to be "a citizen wherever we serve."
Our vision is based on a very simple premise: The quality of life in our communities directly affects the success of our business. As a company, we want to be judged not only by the service we provide, but also for what we do to improve the quality of life for all people in the places where we live and work.
Giving Back
Giving back to the communities we serve is just one way Georgia Power honors its commitment to be a citizen wherever we serve. Our philanthropic commitment occurs through three fronts.
Georgia Power Foundation, Inc.
In 1986, the company created the Georgia Power Foundation to bring greater clarity and strategic focus to our philanthropic activities. The Foundation is an independent legal entity providing grants to organizations that are enriching the communities we serve.
Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed more than $90 million to qualifying nonprofit organizations. With an asset value of approximately $135 million, it currently ranks as the third-largest corporate foundation in Georgia, funding about 440 endeavors each year. Georgia Power has contributed more than $90 million to the Foundation since 1986.

Corporate Giving
Georgia Power makes charitable donations to hundreds of organizations and initiatives throughout our service territory, which includes 153 of the state's 159 counties. Our corporate giving is designed to focus dollars on issues critical to the success of our company, customers and shareholders. Over the past five years, the company has contributed more than $20 million to various endeavors. Most of our corporate giving is driven by employees who work with community agencies to identify the best programs to address local needs. The organizations and agencies we support are as diverse as the people they assist.

Employee Involvement
Georgia Power's employees come to work each day dedicated not only to providing the best electric service, but also committed to enriching the environment and prosperity of their neighborhoods. Whether it's getting involved in a civic organization, mentoring a young student, running a relay to fight cancer or joining in a wide range of other activities, that dedication to serve has been a trademark of Georgia Power employees for generations. In fact, it has become an integral part of the way we do business. Together, our 8,700 employees and 5,000-plus retirees donate more than 80,000 hours of volunteer time annually to reach into their communities to support education, the environment, community and economic development and other initiatives. These efforts are coordinated through our Volunteer Services department.
Through our Club of Hearts program, employees personally have been donating approximately $1 million annually to support United Way, other charities and an employee emergency fund, which assists employees and their families in times of catastrophic illness or hardship.

Many employees also hold leadership positions on nonprofit boards. Requests from nonprofit organizations seeking employees to serve in leadership roles are evaluated locally, based on employee availability and interest and the organization's compatibility with the company's areas of focus.
