Diversity Advisory Council
Georgia Power created a Diversity Advisory Council (DAC) a few years ago to gain a fuller understanding of the business implications of diversity issues at the company. We wanted to take a deeper look at ourselves and see where and how we could be better for our employees, customers and other stakeholders.
DAC membership comprises noted business and community leaders from outside of the company:
- Frank Belatti, chairman and CEO, AFC Enterprises
- Dr. Gerald Durley, pastor, Providence Missionary Baptist Church
- Booker Izell, retired vice president of community affairs and workforce diversity for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
- Ken Lee, retired vice president of International Security for UPS
- Janice Mathis, vice president, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition
- Bertram Sears, president of OMNI Power Clean
- Maritza Soto Keen, director of the Latino Initiative for the University of Georgia
- William Stanley, founder and principal, Stanley Love-Stanley, P.C. and past president, 100 Black Men of Atlanta
Booker Izell currently chairs the Council, which meets three times a year. The group's specific charge is to:
- Provide high-level oversight of the company's diversity initiative.
- Review strategic direction on longer-term issues of diversity management.
- Create another level of accountability for meeting diversity objectives.
- Challenge the thinking and practices of Georgia Power to help the company reach a higher standard.
- Continue to suggest best practices from other companies.
The DAC reports its activities and observations to the Corporate Compliance Committee of the Georgia Power Board of Directors.
"The DAC helps us stay focused on the strategic outcomes of improved management and organizational effectiveness as they relate to diversity and inclusion. Their input has been invaluable to the company's broad-based initiatives to build trust with all employees."
