Distributed Generation

Georgia Power customers who generate electricity may sell some or all of that electricity back to Georgia Power Company. Small generators, residential applications ≤ 10 kw and commercial applications ≤ 100 kw, fall under Georgia Power's Renewable and Non-Renewable tariff. For more details, see the Renewable and Non-Renewable tariff, RNR-6.

Customers who desire to sell electricity back under the above tariff should complete, sign and return the Distributed Generation Contract to:

Interconnection requirements are defined in two documents:

1. Parallel Operation of Generation on the Distribution System
2. GPC Power Delivery Bulletin 18-08

Larger customers, up to 80MW, may sell electricity generated from renewable resources back to Georgia Power as a "Qualifying Facility", as defined by the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA). In Georgia, facilities under 30 MW are paid at GPC's avoided cost. Generators over 30 MW must bid into one of Georgia Power's RFP's (Request for Proposals).
